Toyota Dominates Consumer Reports’ Top 10 Picks

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 The USA Today reported that Toyota is the first brand to earn half of the top 10 spots in nearly a decade in Consumer Reports’ 2012 Top Picks.  The redesigned Camry Hybrid and Highlander edged out the competition to become Top Picks in the Family Sedan and Family SUV categories, respectively.  For the 11th time and ninth consecutive year, the Toyota Prius earned the top spot in the Green Car category.  Both records have not been claimed by any other model in the history of the Top Picks.  RAV4 (Small SUV) and Sienna (Family Hauler) are best in their categories.

“Every year, the competition grows tighter,” according to Consumer Reports Automotive Editor Rik Paul.  “In recent years, as many as nine different brands have taken the top spots.  Combined with the improved Camry, Toyota’s ability to maintain a competitive lead among hybrids and SUVs is a big factor in its strong presence on this year’s list.”

Toyota Confirms Prius Plug-In's Eligibility for an Additional State of California Consumer Incentive and Its EPA Mileage Rating

As the 2012 Prius Plug-in models begin to arrive at dealerships, Toyota Motor Sales, Inc. announces that it has been approved for the State of California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program (CVRP).
Designed to promote the use of Zero Emissions Vehicles (ZEV) and related clean vehicle technologies, the CVRP is a consumer incentive made available in addition to the $2,500 Federal Tax credit¹ offered for qualified vehicles (more information available at: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/article/0,,id=219867,00.html). The 2012 Prius Plug-in also offers consumers eligibility for the State of California’s HOV lane sticker (information found at http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.html). >
The first-ever Prius Plug-in Hybrid, combines the benefits of the third-generation Prius Liftback’s Hybrid Synergy Drive with a dedicated electric driving (EV) capability, in a package that is priced more competitively than most currently available plug-in hybrids or pure Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV). The Prius Plug-injoins the Prius Family, which includes the third-generation Prius Liftback, the versatile new Prius v and the all-new subcompact Prius c, which will be available in March of 2012. The Prius Plug-in features a new Lithium-ion battery, which boosts its overall fuel economy and offers convenient charging times of only 2.5-3 hours using a standard 120V outlet or 1.5 hours using 240V.

While in EV Mode, the Prius Plug-in is rated by the EPA to drive up to 11 miles. It’s also capable of traveling up to 62 mph using electric power alone. During EV Mode driving, the Prius Plug-in is rated at 95MPGe (miles per gallon equivalent). In hybrid mode, it has an EPA combined mileage rating of 50 mpg. This means that when the EV Mode is depleted, Prius Plug-in still obtains the same estimated high fuel economy rating as Prius Liftback. With its Lithium-ion power and extended electric vehicle mode, the Prius Plug-in is EPA-rated for a total driving range of 540 miles.
It will be available in two models, the Prius Plug-in and the Prius Plug-in Advanced. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid model comes equipped with an abundance of standard features including LED Daytime Running Lights, Smart Key on three doors, Display Audio with Navigation and Entune™ with integrated backup camera, Touch Tracer Display, heated front seats, Remote Climate (A/C only), EV/ECO/POWER modes, unique15-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels, enhanced Multi-information Display and much more.
The Prius Plug-in Advanced model adds additional standard features including Premium HDD Navigation with Entune™ and JBL® GreenEdge™, Plug-in Hybrid Applications through a user’s smartphone (Charge Management, Remote Climate, Vehicle Finder, Charging Station Map², and ECO Dashboard²), Head-up Display, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, LED headlamps with auto on/off feature and integrated fog lamps, SofTex-trimmed seating, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, Safety Connect and more.
The base MSRP for the Prius Plug-in Hybrid is $32,000. The Prius Plug-in Hybrid Advanced has an MSRP of $39,525.  Both Prius Plug-in models are eligible for up to $4,000 worth of government-supported consumer incentives ($2,500 federal tax credit¹ and $1500 worth of the State of California’s Clean Vehicle Rebate Program), in addition to offering eligibility for California’s High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane sticker.
At launch, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be available in the following 14 states: California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia.  A national rollout of Prius Plug-in is planned for 2013.

Thank you for these excellent reviews! Kudos team!

Two positive reviews from DealeRater and two positive reviews from Yelp:

DealerRater:

Review 1

"Scott Busby has a great personality!!! Scott made us feel comfortable while going through the numbers and making us feel like a friend getting a car. Scott was very knowledgeable when it came to the vehicle he made sure we knew and understood each function the 2012 Camry had to offer. Nicole in finance was very friendly as well. I would definitely refer Scott to family and friends. We left Toyota Carlsbad with a new 2012 Camry and the process went so smoothly. We look forward to building relationship with the service department as we care for our car."

Review 2

"Duff Joy was a man on a mission. Knew what questions to ask to make a speedy and accurate appraisal of what we needed/wanted and had the car we wanted in front of our eyes in 10 minutes (vs wandering around the lot kicking tires). Did the paperwork as we chatted; answered more questions; got approval in minutes. Very savvy sales person.
Mandi answered more questions about paperwork needed and need for additional maintenance/protection/alarm,etc. She really knows her job as sales person and paperwork guru.
David Corona had the car running and waiting when we finished the paperwork. Set up our phone, had the alarm system up, and gave us a quick "how it all works" tour of essential systems and hardware. Will be taking him up on his offer to consult on how to questions that have come up since.
I would put any of my friends in these folks capable hands.
Tom and Janice B"

"This is gonna be lengthy. We first came to Toyota Carlsbad when we didn't know what we wanted. The salesman asked a few questions then traded us off to another salesman that asked us the same questions. A couple weeks later we returned to drive the Prius V. We had just walked off the VW lot and were not in the best of moods. Dan Flanagan, we cannot say enough about Dan!!! He was a godsend after going to every dealer. We drove the car, we liked the car and he treated us great even though he knew we weren't buying that day. He didnt try to pressure us into a car we didnt want. He is a no pressure salesman, didnt ask for our info, simply gave us his card and said let me know what you decide. They finally got the colors we wanted and Dan was great through the whole process. When we did decide to buy, Dan was working with customers so they had us deal with John Lagudis. John was a good guy too. So all in all, we got a great deal, and the buying process was great. Also if you've financed a Toyota before, you'll get a better interest rate. Go in and see Dan, John, and do your paper work with Lou Maldonado."

Review 2

"We purchased a 2012 Prius yesterday at Toyota Carlsbad.  It was easily the least painful auto purchase my wife and I have ever experienced.  We made a preliminary phone call to Mr. Duff Choy on Thursday and told him what we were looking for.  When we arrived for our appointment on Sunday morning he took us directly to the cars we wanted to see (they have an enormous inventory), answered all our questions (we had been looking at other cars and we were amazed at how many salespeople are not knowlegable about the cars they are trying to sell) and then insisted we take the selected car for a drive..... just to make sure my wife was comfortable.  After returning to the dealership we agreed to a price and then Duff got our old car appraised in just a few minutes.  Duff turned us over to a lady in customer service (unfortunately I cannot recall her name but she sure was nice) who efficiently got us through the paperwork.  By the time we got back to Duff's office the car had been prepped and David took us through the owners manuals until we had no further questions.  He even set up the Bluetooth on our cell phone.  The whole process took about two and a half hours.  This morning the first thing I read in the paper was that we were headed for $4.50/gal. gas this summer.  it was a very good time to get rid of our gas guzzler.  If you are considering buying a Toyota, do yourself a favor and talk to the folks at Toyota Carsbad."

Thank you for telling us about Omar and Traci's exceptional customer service.

Customer testimonial:

"A couple of days ago I received your "Fall in love again" mailer and was reminded of the V.I.P. treatment rendered by you, Traci Ellinwood and Nicole Manganiello to me and my grandson Matt when he acquired his first car last August. It sure made us understand why your car dealership became the biggest in all of San Diego County.

We thanked each of you then and we thank each of you again...right now.

Omar, I hope the new model(s) available this past January resulted in a bunch of new sales to those in your 'book of buyers' you had waiting in the wings.

As an aside, Matt reports that his Corolla has performed perfectly and it turned out to be a very popular model among his fellow college students as evidenced by tons of them parked daily at his college where he is delivering straight "A" results as was expected.

OK, that's it.

All the best to you, Traci and Nicole as you continue to make lots of new car owners so very happy with your product, its selection and financing support?"

Toyota Announces Return of '100 Cars for Good' Program in 2012

At the Chicago Auto Show today, Toyota announced the return of its “100 Cars for Good” program. For the second straight year, Toyota will award 100 vehicles over the course of 100 days to 100 U.S. nonprofits, with winners selected through public voting on the Toyota Facebook page. Applications for the program will open on March 12, 2012 at facebook.com/toyota.

The announcement was made by Michael Rouse, vice president of philanthropy and community affairs for Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., who was accompanied by some of the nonprofits that received vehicles in last year’s 100 Cars for Good program.

“At Toyota, we appreciate what a big difference a new car can make for organizations working to improve lives and strengthen communities across the country, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to lend a hand,” said Rouse. “Over the last 20 years, Toyota has contributed more than half a billion dollars to nonprofits throughout the U.S. 100 Cars for Good allows us to build on that commitment in important, new ways by making the public an integral part of these efforts and harnessing the power of social media to expand awareness and galvanize support for organizations that are having such a tremendous impact in neighborhoods nationwide.”

A 2011 winner of a new Toyota Sienna, the Chicago Zoological Society, also spoke at the announcement.

“We are very appreciative of this tremendous donation from Toyota,” said Stuart Strahl, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Chicago Zoological Society. “The new van has been invaluable in our efforts to bring our conservation and informal science education programs to under-resourced communities throughout Chicago and the suburbs. Our dedicated staff travels year round to these communities, inspiring families to gain an appreciation of nature and wildlife, not only globally, but also in their own backyards. We have also used the minivan to transport young students to the zoo and field locations as part of the Society’s award-winning Youth Volunteer Corps.”

In communities across the country, vehicles from the first year of 100 Cars for Good are making a significant difference. These include:

  • Ensuring that a soup kitchen in Morristown, New Jersey can pick up food donations that used to be turned away due to a lack of transportation, allowing it to provide meals and food to even more people in need;
  • Helping a program near Detroit provide horseback riding visits for kids with cancer; and
  • Supporting the efforts of a nonprofit in Wilmington, North Carolina to train and deliver service dogs to wounded veterans.

Applying for the 2012 100 Cars for Good Program
Beginning March 12, 2012, registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations can apply online at facebook.com/toyota. Finalists will be eligible to win one of six Toyota models, including the Camry Hybrid, Highlander, Prius v, Sienna minivan, Sienna Mobility or Tundra full-sized pickup truck. A six-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty will also be provided for each vehicle, compliments of Toyota Financial Services.

The 100 Cars for Good application process will last for two weeks, or until 5,000 applications are received. Of these, 500 finalists will be selected and then certified by an independent panel of judges who are experts in the fields of philanthropy and social responsibility. Each finalist can then submit a video that will be featured on the Toyota 100 Cars site explaining how a new vehicle would help support its work. In addition, Toyota will be providing each of the finalists with communications and social media tools and training to assist their efforts to raise awareness for their organization.

Public voting will begin in May, with the exact date to be announced later, and will continue for 100 consecutive days. Each day, five organizations will be profiled at facebook.com/toyota and participants may vote for the charity they feel is most deserving of a vehicle.

The four runners up every day will each be awarded a $1,000 grant from Toyota.

100 Cars for Good is the first Toyota initiative that engages the public to determine how corporate philanthropic donations will be awarded. To learn more please, visit facebook.com/toyota.
