Newlywed Paralyzed in Tragic Accident Gains New Lease on Life

Toyota is giving back to the community. Check out this awesome wedding gift they gave Rachelle Friedman and her fiancé Chris Chapman.

RALEIGH, NC – July 22, 2011 – Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. and The Braun Corporation, the world’s largest manufacturer of wheelchair accessible vans and wheelchair lifts, today announced the surprise wedding day donation of a brand new 2011 Toyota Sienna with a BraunAbility Rampvan^® XT conversion to Rachelle Friedman, who was paralyzed as a result of a tragic accident during her bachelorette party in May 2010.

BraunAbility and local mobility dealer Van Products Inc. had loaned 23-year-old Rachelle and her fiancé Chris Chapman a BraunAbility Sienna Rampvan^® while they planned their wedding. Unbeknownst to them, plans were in the works for the ultimate surprise: the donation of a mobility vehicle to the couple as a wedding gift they could use for years to come. 

“Rachelle’s resolve and strength are truly inspirational,” said Nick Gutwein, President of Braun. “We were so moved by her story that we wanted to help her not only while she planned for her wedding, but also as she moves forward in her married life.”

Rachelle had been using the loaned vehicle for wedding appointments and for travel between quad-rugby practices and tournaments, as well as therapy appointments. Until Van Products loaned her the vehicle, her mother had been carrying her in and out of her SUV.

“The van’s made all the difference in the world,” said Rachelle. “Not only has it saved my mom’s back, it’s just made it so much easier to get out and do things. I’ve missed this level of comfort, convenience and independence. Next up…learning to drive on my own!”

"Recent reports have incorrectly stated that the 2012 RAV4 EV will only be marketed to fleet and car sharing programs.  We’d like to set the record straight.  The 2012 RAV4 EV will definitely be sold to the general public.  We anticipate robust public interest in the RAV4 EV and are keen to inform consumers that their future vehicle options include a battery electric Toyota.  

Toyota is the only manufacturer bringing two battery electric vehicles to the market in 2012 - the RAV4 EV and the Scion iQ EV.  While the RAV4 EV will be available to the public, the Scion iQ EV will be marketed to fleet and car sharing programs only.

After being completely blown out of the water with dishonest sales people in LA, I emailed Carlsbad Toyota as a last ditch effort. I received an email right back with all the information and an Internet price for the car we were looking to buy. I talked with the Internet sales person and worked out some numbers. My husband went down and everything was just as what was agreed upon on the phone! This was the easiest car buying experience we have ever had! We would totally buy from Carlsbad Toyota again. For us the drive was well worth it!!!

I am writing this review shortly after I purchased a new 2011 Tacoma. The salesman was very professional and did a great job working with my budget. His knowledge of the truck was outstanding. Because it is new, I am not commenting on the service or work portion, and I hope not to for quite awhile (knock on wood). I would recommend Scott to any of my family and/or friends.
